📍 Saint-Mard-de-Vaux
Autour du Montabon
Picturesque village with houses on the eastern slopes of the Vallée des Vaux, 9 km from
from Givry. Saint-Mard-de-Vaux is dominated by Montabon, a hillside wooded with chestnut, oak, hornbeam and locust trees. In addition to its wine-growing activities, the village has long depended on its forests, which cover two-thirds of its territory. This forestry tradition has given rise to the nickname of its inhabitants, the "Wolves". Over the centuries, the parish changed its name several times: Saint-Médard, Saint-Marc, Montabon during the Revolution, then definitively Saint-Mard-de-Vaux in the 19th century, "Mard" being a contraction of "Médard", the 6th-century bishop of Noyon.
