Les mines de La Chapelle-sous-Dun

The mines of La Chapelle sous Dun were, from 1860, a real economic engine for the territory. This small coal basin was a fine example of social movement: creation of a Pension Fund, a Trade Union Chamber, later a Cooperative Grocery and a People's House. The miners started the longest strike in Burgundy, a total strike from March to July 1899. These mines represent a small but exemplary model of working class life in a rural environment, over a hundred years.

The association "Mémoire des mineurs et mines" (Memory of the miners and the mines) is committed to bringing this past to life.
