A project to mark the former parachute drop sites of the Second World War has taken shape in the département.
Since 2011, the Voluntary Resistance Fighters (CVR) of Saône-et-Loire have been working on a project to mark the former parachute drop sites of the Second World War to pay tribute to the men and women who took great risks to continue the fight against the enemy.
The parachute drops in Rigny-sur-Arroux took place at the "Métacarpe I" airfield on 1 and 13 April, 11 May, 16 June and 10 September 1944.
The totem pole was inaugurated on 8 June 2013.
