Starmania
Starmania will bring the year of work and creation to a close, with a bonus in this, the 10th anniversary year of EPAS.
Every year, the Mâcon-based school presents a renowned musical to the general public. In 2026, it's Luc Plamondon and Michel Berger's rock opera that is being revisited by the student artists on the EPAS professional training course and EPAS Junior. They will be performing on the stage of the Grand Théâtre - scène nationale de Mâcon... with live professional musicians to mark the 10th anniversary of EPAS!
In the first half, the musical Mamma Mia, performed by the adults in the EPAS leisure classes, will have the audience dancing to the music of Abba, and on Saturday afternoon, The Lion King will be revisited by the children and teenagers.
29 artists on stage and live professional musicians
The 19 students in the EPAS vocational training programme and the 10 young people in the EPAS Junior programme will be performing this legendary musical, under the artistic direction of Stéphanie Freyer, the school's director and choreographer. And to celebrate the school's 10th anniversary, five professional musicians will be playing the standards from this not-to-be-missed show live!
All the EPAS teachers - Isabelle Gorsse, Olivier Marcaud, Margot Couturier, Mélanie Guth, Romain Quigrat and Mathilde Cribier - are responsible for the songs, choreography and theatrical scenes.
Starmania, a visionary scenario
In the oppressive megalopolis of Monopolis, where life exists only through screens and neon lights, authoritarian billionaire Zéro Janvier attempts to seize total power alongside former icon Stella Spotlight.
Opposite this elite, the Black Stars gang, led by the rebellious Johnny Rockfort and the manipulative Sadia, sow chaos in order to exist, while waitress Marie-Jeanne wistfully observes Ziggy and host Cristal's desperate quest for glory. Between terrorist attacks, impossible love affairs and a thirst for fame, their destinies intertwine and collapse in an urban tragedy where the dream of being a star ends up consuming everyone's humanity.
Written over 45 years ago, this rock opera is disturbingly relevant today. In this age of social networking, artificial intelligence and climate change, the world of Monopolis resonates more than ever. Presenting Starmania in 2026 means questioning our relationship with image, urban loneliness and the desire for glory that sometimes consumes youth.
Each performer will have to find the organic truth of their character beyond the vocal performance to present the audience with a unique version of Starmania, as a co-creation with the students, teachers and musicians.
