Noëls en été, Cornemuses et orgue.
Christmas in summer? Where does this idea come from?
In Burgundy, as in the rest of France, there is a huge repertoire of noëls, most of which are performed in winter. But at this time of year, the temperature in the churches is not ideal for either the musicians or the listeners. For this summer concert, Le Quarto, a bagpipe trio from Central France that performs traditional French music in instrumental polyphony, will be joining forces with an organist to present a programme based on carols, traditional French melodies and pieces by J.S. Bach and W.A. Mozart.
The combination of organ and bagpipes is not new, but it is relatively rare.
The church of Saint Martin, with its organ, is the ideal place to welcome this quartet, and July is the perfect month to enjoy summer carols.
Gilles Desserprit, Pascal Desbrosses, Jacques Lanfranchi: bagpipes. Mike Carver: organ.
