SAXBACK ENSEMBLE Wind sextet

BROADWAY EN SCÈNE

Three saxophonists, two clarinettists and a saxhorn player.

The union of six "SAXBACKERS".

***

An original wind sextet, this atypical ensemble offers a resolutely modern and daring take on wind instruments. Drawing on the legacy of the brilliant inventor Adolphe SAX (father of the bass clarinet, the saxophone family and saxhorns), the six musicians of the Saxback Ensemble, all graduates of the Paris and Lyon Conservatoires and the Amsterdam Conservatoire, develop the group's artistic identity around transcriptions and tailor-made creations, collaborating with talented arrangers and composers.

Formed in 2016, Saxback performs at numerous festivals in France and internationally, notably with Concerts de Poche.

The group has strong links with South Korea. Its flexible repertoire also includes a cine-concert based on short films and an educational project for conservatories.

The strong bond between these six saxbackers makes their concerts dynamic and moving.

Tom CAUDELLE, Saxhornist and composer

Alongside his classical training, this well-known musician is curious and passionate, with a wide range of experience in jazz, contemporary music and improvisation. Tom has performed throughout France and abroad with a wide range of ensembles and prestigious soloists, including the Orchestre de l'Opéra de Paris and the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra. After founding a number of ensembles, in 2017 he created the NO SLIDE Brass Sextet and joined Saxback in 2023.

Cécilia LEMAITRE-SGARD, Bb and bass clarinets

Passionate about chamber music, Cécilia is currently studying for a master's degree and has given numerous concerts in France and abroad. With the same desire to perfect her skills, Cécilia joined the Saxback ensemble to pursue her musical research. A regular guest with leading French orchestras, she is also training as a teacher and teaches clarinet in Lyon.

Louise MARCILLAT, Eb and Bb clarinets.

She has worked with a number of orchestras, including the Opéra de Lyon and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. Invited to perform at a number of prestigious festivals, she regularly collaborates with several composers on contemporary works.

Following on from this research, Louise joined the innovative Saxback ensemble in 2023. She is the recipient of the Adami grant.

Paul LAMARQUE, Baritone saxophone

He has founded a number of ensembles, including the Pannonica Quartet and the Rogue Trio. Paul focuses on artistic education, and his experience led him to set up the Ateliers des Arts to provide high-quality artistic education outside the city.

He is a regular guest with various orchestras: the Balcon (for L'Opéra de Quat'Sous at the Comédie-Française), the Toulouse Wind Orchestra, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice...

Antonin POMMEL, Tenor and Soprano saxophones

A passionate chamber musician, Antonin Pommel is a founding member of Saxback and several other ensembles, including Trio Rogue and Quatuor Yendo. He has an active career in France and abroad, and is regularly invited to play in various philharmonic orchestras, including Monte Carlo, Nice and the Aix-en-Provence Festival.

Mathilde SALVI, Saxophones, Soprano and Alto

She explores various repertoires from the Baroque to the present day. As a soloist, she has performed with prestigious groups such as the harmony orchestra of the Garde Républicaine. She also teaches saxophone at the Conservatoire d'Auxerre. She joined Saxback in 2025.
