The new, disorientated church was built in 1877, in the neo-Gothic style, to plans by the architect Gallier from Tournus, completed by the architect Giroud in 1876. Many families from Cheilly and beyond (including the Schneider family from Le Creusot) contributed to the funding. The church was opened for Christmas celebrations in 1878, but without a steeple or bell. The steeple dates from 1896.
