Eglise Saint-Gervais et Saint-Prothais
The Romanesque and early Gothic (Cistercian) church was built between 1200 and 1260. It was built of local stone, granite and limestone.
Saint-Gervais and Saint Prothais church in Saint-Gervais-sur-Couches (13th century, listed as a Historic Monument on 2 June 1911): 15th-century altarpiece and 15th-century statues also listed as Historic Monuments. This very old church is remarkable for its Cistercian architecture, an intimate blend of Gothic and Romanesque styles. It is set in a square, shaded to the north by lime trees surrounding a memorial cross, and to the south by a small herb garden and the remains of the old cemetery (crosses and tombs), as well as a wash-house and a peace tree (lime tree). It's a peaceful place, an invitation to reflect.
Annual opening hours are 9am to 7pm, and on spring and summer days the church is usually open until 9pm.
