Culles-les-Roches has a prehistoric site and remains from the Gallic, Gallo-Roman and Merovingian periods. In the Middle Ages, the village depended on the Châtellenie de Saint-Gengoux-le-Royal. It was under the influence of Cluny that the church of Culles-les-Roches was built in the 11th century under the name of Saint-Germain. This saint was born near Autun (c.496-c.576) and was bishop of Paris.
