The church of Collonge-en-Charollais has unknown origins, perhaps Carolingian. Its foundations date from the Romanesque period, probably from the 11th century. Under the Ancien Régime, it was attached to the archpriesthood of Rousset and to the appointment of the bishop of Mâcon. It is dedicated to Saint-Etienne, deacon of the primitive church, first Christian martyr, stoned for his faith. The parish church of Saint-Etienne de Collonge dates from the end of the 15th century for the chevet and the bay.
