Église romane Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption

Built at the end of the XIth century and beginning of the XIIth century, this church is one of the most beautiful in Southern Burgundy.

Built at the end of the 11th century and beginning of the 12th century, this church is one of the most beautiful in southern Burgundy. It is also one of the oldest monasteries in this region, founded in the 9th century by the monks of Saint-Martin d'Autun. This monastery prospered in the Middle Ages thanks to the pilgrimage to the tomb of its founder, Hugues de Poitiers. The presence of a crypt is unique in the Charolais-Brionnais region and this architectural choice, made by the monks in the 11th century, was intended to bear witness to the age of the foundation. The nave, with its remarkable sculpted decoration, as well as the elegant octagonal bell tower, complete the beauty and interest of the site.
