Chapelle Notre-Dame de Romay

Built in the 12th century in the stone quarry where the Basilica was built, this chapel became an important Marian shrine.

The oldest part of this chapel dates from the 12th century. The first chapel was used as a small oratory near the stone quarry when the basilica was being built. In the 19th century, it was used as a chapel of respite, as evidenced by the many votive offerings. Near the chapel is the fountain, reputed to be miraculous for eye diseases.
