Chapelle des Moines

A masterpiece of wall painting from the 12th century, located between Cluny and Macon.

A masterpiece of 12th-century wall painting.

Situated between Cluny and Mâcon, the priory of Berzé-la-Ville was created by the abbot of Cluny, Hugues de Semur, where he received distinguished guests and isolated himself from the intense political and religious life of the Abbey of Cluny. The chapel's wall paintings are still extremely well preserved. Built on two levels, the lower chapel bears some traces of paintings, but it is in the upper chapel that visitors will discover a jewel of Romanesque art.
