Circuit de l’abolition de l’esclavage
The circuit in memory of the abolition of slavery, also known as the "departmental circuit, Saône-et-Loire - Terre d?abolitionnistes" (Saône-et-Loire - land of abolitionists) is dedicated to the men and women who worked so hard for the abolition of slavery. A number of emblematic figures from the département fought for the abolition of slavery, both on home soil and across the seas, including Pierre Moreau, Jean-Philippe Saclier, General Etienne Mayneaud de Bisefranc de Lavaux, Alphonse Marie Louis de Prat de Lamartine and Anne-Marie Jahouvey. Memorial plaques shed light on this little-known page of history at Digoin, Paray-le-Monial, Charolles, Génelard, Toulon-sur-Arroux, Autun, Montceau-les-Mines, Saint-Point, Milly-Lamartine, Cluny, Mâcon, Cormatin and Ameugny.
