Sentier littéraire, sur les pas d'Irène Némirovsky - Circuit "Le bourg"
A literary trail dedicated to Irène Némirovsky, an author who lived in Issy l'Evêque. She left her mark on the village with two manuscripts written...
The novelist Irène Némirovsky, a best-selling author in 1930s France but forgotten after the Second World War, is the only writer to be awarded the Prix Renaudot posthumously in 2004 for her unfinished novel Suite Française. She spent two years in Issy-l'Évêque between 1940 and 1942, before being deported to Auschwitz, and left her mark on the village with two manuscripts written there, Suite Française and Chaleur du sang. Two paths are dedicated to her memory, this one in the village, signposted in red (580 m), the other in blue through the countryside (8 km) where the author liked to go to write. The route is marked out with information panels featuring extracts from the author's works and historical notes. Guided tours organised by the Mémoire et patrimoine Issyquois association: 23 July, 20 August, 25 September and 22 October at 2.30pm. Meet at the fairground. Tours free of charge.
