Lavoir des Chavannes
A true industrial cathedral, the Chavannes washhouse was the largest coal-fired washhouse in Europe when it was commissioned in 1927.
This coal wash plant was built during the late 20’s. The mechanical process replaced the storers (mostly women) who used to hand worked at the surface. It cannot be visited but can be admired from outside along the canal road to Ciry-le-Noble.
