Fours à chaux
The lime kilns were built between 1879 and 1881 and operated until the 1960s.
These lime kilns, built between 1879 and 1881, remained fully operational up until the 1960's. The three kilns, surmounted by a brick chimney, are truly exceptional by virtue of their size (24 meters high). The limestone baked at this site was intended to derive a quality of lime particularly valuable for agricultural uses, and production was distributed by rail. Site restoration was undertaken from 1998 to 2002 and led to a landmark classification. The kilns are now on display within a bucolic environment in the heart of Charolais country.
