Musée du Prieuré - Jean Laronze

Housed in a former Cluniac priory, the museum presents a collection of fine and decorative arts showcasing local artists.

The museum is housed in a former Cluniac priory, founded in the 12th century and refurbished in the 15th and 16th centuries. The ceremonial hall, a listed historic monument restored in 2003, bears witness to this period. The museum now houses a complete collection of Charolles earthenware (1844 to the present day) alongside landscapes by J. Laronze (1852-1937) and P. L. Nigaud (1895-1937). The former 19th-century chapel houses works by R. Davoine, a Charolais sculptor (1888-1962). Every year in the spring, a special exhibition showcases the collections that have been taken out of storage. This is complemented by an exhibition of contemporary ceramics every summer.
