To know : The valley of the Arroux
At the level of Etang-sur-Arroux, the valley narrows, forming a threshold. The high slopes move back a little. The tense bottom of the Autun plain gives way to a maze of hills, crossed by small valleys where the Arroux valley keeps its preponderance.
On both sides of the Arroux, a succession of gentle reliefs on which the eye bounces or wanders, reveals a depth to the assertive slopes of the Morvan or the Montagne Autunoise which rise in the background. Here, what catches the eye is the coexistence of hills in meadows, underlined by a graphic bocage, wooded hillsides that refocus the gaze on the valley floor, or the successive tilts from a viewpoint to a more intimate background.
