Les trois roches

The Solutré and Vergisson rocks and the Mont de Pouilly slope eastwards, as a result of the tilting of the limestone plateau during the Alpine uplift. Originally covered by forests, their summits are now covered by a specific environment known as calcicole grasslands, vast expanses of short grasslands covering poor, shallow soil. These areas are home to great biological diversity, characterized by the presence of rare species and remarkable plant associations, and recognized at European level by their inclusion in the Natura 2000 network.
