Les Hauts de Coublanc

At the beginning of Coublanc, pass in front of the church dedicated to Sainte Marie Madeleine, the old one judged too small and unhealthy was destroyed around 1850. In 1852 a new church was built, designed by the renowned architect André Berthier. It was consecrated on October 5, 1869. On the other side of the street, you can admire the former presbytery and girls' school, now a private home, the 16th century "Auclair" house.

Then pass in front of the town hall, the school, leave the main road and go straight towards the point N°2 "Montbernier". After crossing a charming stream, continue to the left and then to the right towards point N°3 " La Favrie ". Admire the valley and in the distance the Montrond where the oratory of the Holy Family was erected in 1875, where a bearded Saint Joseph sits, bareheaded, carrying a branch of lily in his right arm. The child Jesus whose feet rest on a globe and a Virgin Mary draped in a long veil.

At point N°3 "La Favrie" turn right and leave the tarred road to take a dirt road, go along the wood, the view goes far on the village of Tancon and even further on the village of Saint Julien de Jonzy. You enter the Gauthay Wood. Many cuts are made in this spruce wood. You can see the bell tower of Coublanc between some trees. Arriving at the point N°4 "les quatre chemins" turn right, while descending, on your left, superb views on the village of Villers in the department of the Loire. The viewpoints of this walk are extraordinary, on the Roannais facing you.

Take the D259 then turn on your left at the point N°5 " la croix du lièvre ". Continue your way between the hedges of holly, hornbeam, hazelnut trees, refuges of the birds until the point N°6 " the justices ". Turn right and then left, cross the bocage and discover landscapes full of softness and serenity. From there you can see the hamlet of La Place, which belongs to the commune of Coublanc, which elects its mayor on the occasion of its district festival, which gives rise to joyful festivities.

Gently descend this charming path to a small pond, and go up to the plateau. At point N°7 " Point IGN 405 m " turn right and go past the cemetery and back to the village.
