📍 La Chapelle-du-Mont-de-France

Les hauts

The village's name has evolved over the course of history. The settlement of the site by the Franks gave rise to the name Vila Francia, now the hamlet of France. In 950, a chapel was built, and a new hamlet was named Mons Francia. The village overlooks the Noue valley and gives access to the Charollais chain, offering a wide variety of views: of the Beaujolais peaks to the south, of the tangled hills up to Mont Saint-Cyr and of the broad Charollais ridges.

From the village square go down the D 421, past the cemetery. Turn right in the direction of Les Baudras, then take the second path on the left to join the D 121.

Short variant (CMF2) : continue on the road, cross Les Baudras and join La Maladière.

At Butot, take the D 121 to the right for about 200 m, then the D 41 to the left in the direction of Trivy. After a big bend, turn right behind a house. Go straight up in the middle of meadows and crops. Arrive in the undergrowth at the border of Trivy.

Go down to the right in the middle of a plantation of Douglas pines, cross a stream and then a road. Go up to a crossroads.

Turn right towards "CMF2 La Maladière". The path, often wet, joins the D 41. Take the road on the right, cross it at a bridge and go up on the left between the two beacons until the next crossing.

At the end of the variant, leave the tarmac and take the path opposite which climbs gently towards Burnet. After about 200 m you will see a view to the south. Go along a coniferous plantation and then meadows until you reach a Douglas fir forest on the right. View on Curtil-sous-Buffières on the left. Turn right at the next intersection, then right again on a grassy, fairly damp path. It joins a dirt road; go down it until the road to Bergesserin.

Turn left on the tarmac, pass two houses and turn right in the square of conifers to join the path on the right which overlooks the village; 300 meters after the isolated house, view on the village and its church, the valley of the Noue, the mounts of Beaujolais, etc. Continue straight ahead; the dirt road returns to the tarmac, passes under the telephone relay and arrives at Mont.

At the first house, turn right and then right again to go down to the village, leaving the "France" road on the right. After the next crossroads, take a dirt road to the right (view of the 12th century church). At the end of the road, turn left to go around the church, pass in front of the war memorial and reach the square.
