Le grand tour

A small perched village, Montagny overlooks the valley and offers vast views of the Mâconnais, Beaujolais and Clunisois mountains. The serene beauty of these landscapes led a young lover, Léon de Bruys, a friend of Lamartine, to think that all he had to do was build a spacious "Italian-style" residence here, with a wide view over the valley, so that a beautiful Italian would come and live in exile: the lover having ruined himself in the venture, the beauty did not follow up ...

From the wash house of Montagny-sur-Grosne, go up to the church and then reach a bread oven.

Go up to the left, and left again after the town hall; the small road passes above the village.

In front of a plot of land planted with Douglas fir trees, turn right. After a house, the path goes into the Esmyards wood and goes down to the D 289 ; follow it on the right for about 50 m, then take a small road on the right going up to a new plantation. Turn left onto a grassy path that crosses a meadow and reaches another plantation.

Go down to the left; at the D 289, turn right for about 50 m, then go left towards La Bombie. In the hamlet, turn right (you can quench your thirst under the chestnut tree of the fountain of the Wolf). As you go up, the road enters a hardwood forest and comes to an intersection, less than 100 m from the edge.

Turn left, then, 500 m further down, left again. Before the house of Barricant, take a grassy path on the right that runs along meadows, enters coppices and passes the edge of a narrow plantation on the left.

Before the hamlet of Pas-de-la-Sue, turn left around the plantation. The path descends between woods and pastures on the right. After a very wet passage, it goes up slightly; follow it until the park of the castle of Ouilly that you follow on the right until the edge of the forest. Continue to the right downhill along the wall found about 200 m further on, leading to the old conciergerie recognizable by its monumental gate.

Take the road down towards Clermain. It crosses the Raverot bridge. Shortly after, go up on the left towards Montagny-sur-Grosne. At the end of the first bend on the left, take a dirt road on the right (going up, circular view). At the end, turn left on a sandy track and reach a crossroads.

Turn right on a new asphalt road that joins the D 289; turn left, cross the village and reach the starting point.
