Le chemin des Moines
It is a mythical ridge path "chemin faîtral" between Tournus and Cluny on the GR 76, 76A and 76C. It would draw its name from the links between the abbeys of Cîteaux and Cluny in the 12th century. Following the crests of the hills, following the relief in order to avoid as much as possible the ascents and descents, this path was also the most frequented of all by the monks of Cluny who used it many times. It follows the great spine of the Monts du Mâconnais, from Laives to Cluny where it joins the road to Santiago de Compostela. Its ridge line offers panoramic views of the deciduous forests and the plain. The route crosses attractive sites: the Romanesque church of Saint-Martin-de-Laives, the Roche d'Aujoux, Etrigny, Balleure, the medieval and picturesque village of Brancion, Mont Saint-Romain, Blanot, Donzy-le-Pertuis, the abbey town of Cluny. The route crosses many passes: Navois pass (446 m), Roche d'Aujoux, Col des Chèvres (419 m), Brancion pass, Pistole pass, Mont Saint-Romain (550 m), Croix pass, Percée pass.
