Circuit du Torail

From Châteauneuf, point N°1 " place des marronniers ". Pass the bridge called Roman which overhangs the river Sornin.

Cross the village of Saint Maurice les Châteauneuf, view on the Romanesque chapel of Saint-Maurice-les-Châteauneuf and its picturesque cemetery. During the summer season, you will push the door of this one to admire the organized exhibitions. Leave the D8, point N°2 to take the communal path, on your left you will see an old wash house transformed into a garage. During your walk, you will discover the dry stone walls, the hedged farmland and the rich Brionnais houses, witnesses of the agricultural activity developed in the breeding of the Charolais breed. Your walk will lead you to point N°3 " Ragot ", N°4 to " La Chenauderie " then to " Verchères " and finally to " Noirards " point N°5.

At " Verchères " cross the small stream of Barres and then follow the Sornin river until " Noirards ", point N°5.

Cross the D987 in the direction of Modeux and climb the other side of the valley to the "Bey" point N°6 in the direction of Chassigny-sous-Dun, point N°7. There you will observe magnificent views of the Roannais mountains on your right and the Dun mountain on your left. After having crossed the village of Chassigny-sous-Dun, go down in the valley of Mussy. Cross the D308 then the river of Mussy and go up to the right in direction of " Montcarron ", point N°8 and " la Cornerie ", point N°9. As the seasons go by, you will appreciate the diversity of the viewpoints and the richness of our flora.

After crossing the D8, you will go to point N°10, in the direction of the village of Tancon, there on the road, on your left, views on the villages of Saint-Igny-de-Roche and Coublanc and on your right in the distance Saint-Julien-de-Jonzy.

A little before Tancon, turn right and go down through the woods to the terrace of the Romanesque church of Châteauneuf. Push the door of the church and let yourself be charmed by the architecture and the serenity of the place. On the way out, the privately owned Château de la Magdeleine is in front of you.

By going back down by the "Chemin du Torail" point N°11, do not leave without visiting Châteauneuf.
