Circuit des croix
Saint Point, a village in the Val Lamartinien between Cluny and Tramayes, overlooked by the château of poet and politician Alphonse de Lamartine, and the 12th-century Romanesque church of St Donat. Numerous crosses, wash-houses and wells are scattered around the commune, in charming hamlets. The Lac, a 10-hectare lake, is a popular vacation spot for tourists from the nearby campsite and the surrounding area, as well as for walkers.
1 - From the war memorial, go along the public garden, turn right and go up to the castle of Saint-Point, church (12th century) and old cemetery (cross of Saint-Donat). In front of the castle gate, go down the road. Cross the bridge and take the stony path on the right to the cross of La Roche. Cross the D22. At the lavoir de la Roche, take the grassy path on the left. Continue to the right until the road and follow it to the left. Cross the farm and join the "broken" cross of Merloux.
2 - Go up to the right and after 100 m, continue to the right. Follow the road to the right, along a farm. At the first house of Joux, turn left, idem at the crow's feet, and reach the cross of Joux. Go straight on, cross a road and continue for a path. At the wash house, turn right. Cross a road and go down in front of it. At the houses, go up to the left and reach the cross of the Rocher, view on the castle.
3 - Go up to the Rocher by the road. At the first crossroads, go straight on, then left at the second one. Take the road on the left until Bourgogne. Pass the cross of Bourgogne and, at the exit, a fortified farm, continue straight ahead by a path. Cross Pré-Magnien, stay on the road, cross of Chanalle, and cross this hamlet.
4 - At the exit, turn left on the path that leads to Gorze. Continue straight ahead until you reach the road, then turn left to Prost. At the crossroads, turn right and continue to the Prost Cross. At the crossroads, turn left, pass the sawmill and go down to Vers Ville. Continue downhill on the road to the left, take a path to the right towards the lake and join the D22.
5 - Cross it and go up to the Mont by the road. Go along the wall of a bourgeois house and turn right at the second path. After 200 m, enter the forest by the right track. Follow the road to the right. At the crossroads turn left, at the crow's feet, continue to the right and reach the Berthier cross.
6 - Turn right and follow the GR until the road. Go down it on the right. At the Champ Philippe hairpin, continue to the left until the first grassy path. Follow it to the right between pastures and reach a farm. Go down the road on the left for 50 m, then go up on the left by a path which leads to the cross of Chagny.
7 - Leave the cross on the left, go down the road to the rue du Frêne, continue on the right until the crossroads. Go down the path in front of you, leaving the first house on the right. Cross the road and take the path opposite which leads to Saint-Point.
