Pavillons Fillot

Ferdinand Fillod, from Saint-Amour (Jura), started building metal barracks in 1922.

Ferdinand Fillod, a native of Saint-Amour (Jura), began building metal huts for construction sites in 1922. In 1928, he developed a system for prefabricating metal buildings, which he patented worldwide. Over the last twenty years or so, historians have been rediscovering the importance of this pioneer in the field of prefabrication, fifteen years before Jean Prouvé. These prefabricated buildings were installed in Gueugnon in the 1930s in response to a temporary housing crisis for ironworks workers. They were also used temporarily as a prison for German soldiers. They are not open to the public, but can be seen from the road.
