Château de Montrifaut was built between 1895 and 1898 by Jean Moreau, an architect from Moulins, for Jean Jacquelot de Chantemerle de Villette, a large landowner (600 hectares) and mayor of the commune from 1897 until his death in 1920. The architect had already worked for Jacquelot's brother on the Château de Sommery in Gilly-sur-Loire. Here he created an original building, inspired by Anglo-Norman beach villas and a "replica" of the Maison Mantin in Moulins, built some time earlier by his father, René, for a local bourgeois. The château is privately owned and cannot be visited, but is visible from the road.
