I polish the piece (handmade using the colombin technique) during the drying process. After a first firing, I put a porcelain undercoat under the glaze which prevents it from sticking to the piece. During the firing process the glaze sits on top of the underlay and adheres to the piece. After firing I can remove the underglaze and the glaze and create my own designs. The second firing is done in a wood-fired kiln as well as the smoking.
